Does extraction hurt?
All extractions are done under Local Anesthesia to ensure a completely pain free experience. Post extraction, depending on the tooth, there might be some swelling and discomfort for a few days. These are easily managed with pain killers and anti inflammatory medication.
What precautions should I take after an extraction?
- Do not eat anything too hard or anything too spicy rite away the extraction.
- Do not smoke for 12 hours post extraction
- Do not use a straw to drink.
- Do not spit or rinse forcefully for 24 hours.
- Do not touch the extraction site with your tongue or hands.
- Do not put too much pressure on the extracted side.
- Consume soft and cold foods so as to not irritate the extraction site.
- Do not consume hot drinks, only cold ones. Yes you can have lots of ice cream.
- Keep the gauze: You would probably have a gauze placed over the extraction site, bite firmly on it for 30 minutes. Only change it after those 30 minutes have passed.
- On the second day of the extraction, use a warm salt water rinse after your meals to make sure that the extraction area remains clean.
